Two New Museums
There is a large number of museums and galleries in Krakow, far too many to see over the course of one short visit. I will probably point a few of them out in later blogs, but I did want to call attention today to the two fairly new ones below. I thought that I’d mention these because not only do they sound interesting, but also because I’ve never actually been to either of them. Hopefully, we can check them out.
Krakow Rynek Underground Tour
The “rynek” is a word that you will hear a lot. It literally means “market,” and is another way to refer to Krakow’s main square. I believe that the current location of the rynek has been around since the 1200s. Throughout that time, literally millions of people have walked on it, traded on it, ate on it, rallied on it, etc. with the key word being “on.” Not long ago, though, a new tour of the square began. It is based on the findings of recent archeological excavations. It is my understanding that the entire museum is housed not on, but rather under the square.

Schindler’s Factory Tour
This is another place that opened recently, one that I’ve not seen but would really like to visit. I’m sure that I’m just saying things that you already know, but the story of Schindler and the people he saved takes place in Krakow. The movie “Schindler’s List” was shot on location here, and some of the places selected for scenes are quite recognizable. For many years, I had wondered about the exact location of Schindler’s factory and wanted to visit it, but I was also told that there simply wasn’t much to see. All that changed recently with the creation of the factory tour. In addition to information about Schindler, the exhibits are also supposedly a great way to learn about daily life in Krakow during the occupation.
