Polish Folk Dress

In Poland, each region is known for its specific type of folk dress. Here’s a link that gives you some samples: https://www.polskiinternet.com/english/info/folk-costiums.html

In Kraków, you will sometimes see street musicians dressed in the costume most associated with the region. The men usually wear a hat that has a high feather in it. I remember reading a play called “The Wedding” by Stanislaw Wyspianski, a very well known artist and writer from Kraków. There is a really neat scene during which the people are dancing at a reception, and he very beautifully describes the moment when the men wearing Kraków hats danced so lively that their feathers seemed to clean the ceiling.

I think that it’s very cool that a lot of young people in Poland still take part in folk dance ensembles. Here’s an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BXYKkb-SynM

Look at an unusual exhibition of polish costumes on ethnically diverse models. The author, Piotr Sikora well known NYC photographer grew in Krakow as my neighbor.

Thanks for the links. What a cool idea. I would like to check out the gallery on ul. Florianska. The photos are beautiful, great lighting and great expressions on the faces. Thanks again for the recommendation.
