Jewish Culture Festival

When I was first starting to put this website together, I made a list of things that I wanted to include, among them was the Jewish Culture Festival. At the time, I couldn’t find any information, but remembered it as usually being in June. I was a little bit disappointed, because I figured we were going to miss it by a hair with our July arrival. As it turns out, though, we will still be able to catch the tail end (in some ways maybe the best parts), as the festival runs up through July 8th. I’ve enjoyed the music in this event so much in the past that I am especially psyched that we’ll get to see at least some of it this time around. For example, there’s going to be an outdoor concert in Kazimierz on Saturday the 7th, which should be very lively, fun and in many ways moving.

Given the city’s history as a centuries-old hub of Jewish culture—later wiped out by the horrible events of the holocaust—there doesn’t seem to be a more appropriate place to commemorate, honor and celebrate Jewish history, art, dance and music than right in the heart of Kazimierz. The festival has a diverse itinerary packed into ten days, with events running from morning to night. These include dance and music workshops for all, exhibits, lectures, tours and concerts from groups representing various countries. In the past, for example, I’ve seen the Klezmatics there, an awesome klezmer band from NYC. This year, among others, I see that world-renowned clarinetist David Krakauer will perform. https://www.davidkrakauer.com/live/

Here’s a link to information about the outdoor concert on the 7th. Definitely check out the videos near the bottom of the page:

OK! Looks like we have Sat July 7 blocked out for this festival - sounds GREAT!! I love being able to make up agendas as we go.

The whole festival is definitely a cool thing. There's a klezmer music workshop that I would love to go to, but it's on the day we get there, so I don't think that it will work out. Anyway, the Saturday night concert should be fun. It runs most of the evening, and it's outdoors. So, it's the kind of thing where you can watch for a while, get something to eat somewhere, stroll around, listen some more, etc.
