Copernicus
Copernicus is one of Poland’s big claims to fame. While I personally think that Kraków is the center of the universe, Copernicus did some calculations and decided to put the sun there (well, he didn't really say it's the center of the entire universe, just our little solar system). No wonder religious authorities were pretty ticked at him not only in Poland, but everywhere else as well. In any case, they didn’t cut off his head, and at a certain point many people even decided to honor him. He is especially associated with Kraków because he studied here at Jagiellonian University. Ladies, if you’re lucky, he’ll let you see his astrolabe.
