Apron Strings, Part 2
Today, we’ll look at more places that offer a touch of home. We might not go to any of them, but they’re there just in case.
Yummie
“Yummie remains a tribute to American-style overconsumption.” Again, when I’m in Krakow I usually go local, even for meat feasts and overeating. However, if American-style steaks, ribs and burgers are the only thing that will take a load off those tired dogs at the end of a long day of walking, this should do. It’s also on the main square, so that helps. https://www.yummie.pl/pl/home
Jeff’s
I might want to try this place mainy because of its location. Back in the old days when I lived in Kazimierz, my apartment was near an old slaughterhouse. As with so many other things in town, the former meat plant has now been totally modernized, renovated and, believe it or not, turned into a new shopping mall. I’ve never been inside. A steak at Jeff’s might be a fitting way to pay tribute to all of those poor moocows that passed through these gates oh so long ago.

Sioux Classic
I’ve never been here, but this place gets good reviews, apparently has large portions and is conveniently located. Just the way the Sioux intended it. https://www.sioux.com.pl/
Bagelmama (Kazimierz)
Another place that I have never tried, but it might be worth it. As I’ve mentioned in the past, I am a purist (and possibly a nationalist) when it comes to bagels. I think that America has perfected the art, and I much prefer to eat obwarzanki when I’m in Poland. But, then again, it might be worth trying an “everything” with cream cheese when we’re in Kazimierz. https://www.bagelmama.com/
Tribeca Coffee (coffee, hot chocolate, muffins)
These guys were one of the first places in town where you could buy muffins and American-style coffee. They used to be on Queen Jadwiga St., and the place was a hang out for American hipsters with java monkeys on their backs. I think that some of them actually filled their backpacks at home with everything they needed to survive, got themselves a large cup of mud, and never moved out of this place. Eventually, though, they must have had to, as I see that Tribeca is now located in the Old Town. This makes it more convenient to grab a quick cup in the morning. I will, however, always prefer the original location. The truth is, if you’re looking for more of a laidback bohemian vibe, there are plenty of other places, including Singer in Kazimierz, the dark, dingy hole that set the trend for many other dark, dingy holes in the neighborhood.

Movies
Finally, I have always found that nothing beats a taste of home like a good film. I usually don’t care at all for having burgers, drinks, news or whatever from the US when I’m in Krakow (well, with the exception of Phillies updates). A box of popcorn, a two-hour slice of the English language and familiar stars, however, always makes me sufficiently warm and fuzzy. Fortunately, if you have a hankering for some George Clooney, Scarlett Johansson, Batman, or even Abraham Lincoln and his vampire-slaying axe, you can usually find them close-at-hand in a local theater, of which there are plenty in and near the Old Town.
